We did our due diligence and spoke to several roofing companies before choosing Merritt. We even went ahead and paid extra for the "Platinum Coverage" for added piece of mind.

The installation crew did such a bad job on our roof that Merritt have since told me that they will no longer work with them. I understand that they do still work with the contractors, just not those exact installers.
We were surprised to learn that Merritt contracts in installation crews, as part of what we were hoping we were paying for by going with a large, named company was a dedicated installation team.
The edges of all of the shingles at the ends of the roofs were cut so badly that they were crescent-shaped, and the shingles underneath were exposed. There were a number of chunks taken out of the shingles by carless ladder placement. One of the crew had decided to fix part of a gutter that he had dislodged by shooting a bunch of nails into it, causing a leaking gutter. They had also cracked the soffit and it was just hanging out. Although this has now been put back in place, it is still cracked. The team packed up and left without saying anything to me, and the PM wasn't around.
The team eventually repaired some of these issues. I was put in touch with Garrett Zarecky, the Merritt Production Manager. He scheduled a date with me at the end of September to come and inspect the roof. He also made a number of comments along the lines of "If we need to replace the whole roof, we will" and that he would check inside our attic space, if he felt it necessary.

Garret game to inspect the roof but did not go inside the attic. He assured me that this roof was as good as new.

I was cleaning the gutters, preparing for winter, and noticed that there were a number of shingles that had scuffs and gouges out of them. There was also the head of a nail pushing through one of the shingles at the back of the house.
I reached out to the PMs and Garrett. Jason had left the company, which seemed odd for a person who had only started there a few months before. Bryan agreed that it looked like the shingles had been damaged in some way, maybe a defect in the shingles, and asked Garrett to inspect the roof. Garrett told me that the damage was caused by foot traffic. The fact that there had been enough foot traffic on my roof in the days after it was installed to cause damage, seems to be another indication of how poorly it was installed.
Merritt's "Repair Guy" Alonzo, came out and replaced large areas of shingles. After at least 3 repairs since new, Garrett assured me the roof was "Good to go". I said I would reserve judgement for another few months to allow the shingles to settle.

I contacted Garrett and Bryan to say that I still had issues. Some of the shingles don't seem to sit flat, to the point that they are collecting debris. Some don't seem to fully cover the course underneath. There are also still gouges and scrapes. These are just the issues I can see from the ground or my small step ladder. There may be more I can't see.
Garrett didn't even come out to review my concerns, just said that "Your roof Is covered under warranty." Covered for what? Piece of mind? Cosmetic issues? Functional issues? It seems that the warranty doesn't actually cover you until the roof starts to leak. At that point your house is already damaged and the warranty only covers any repairs to the roof, not damage to the house. So I have to wait until my roof fails, causing untold damage to the woodwork, sheet rock, electrics, etc.
I am left feeling that this company failed from the very beginning, and have done very little to fix the issues caused. This was nowhere close to a $10K experience, and I have never received a new roof, only a repeatedly repaired one. Read more
